DeWitt, N. Y. — A missing 13-year-old girl from DeWitt was found safe and healthy Wednesday night in East Syracuse, DeWitt Police spokesman Lt. Jerry Pace said.

Leah Stark, 13, was reported missing from her home on Hamilton Parkway since 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a DeWitt police news release.

Leah was found at about 4:20 p.m. near on Celi Dr. in East Syracuse, Pace said.

Erica Stark, Leah’s mother, wrote in a Facebook post that her daughter was found on Kinney Road near the old Carrier building by her dance teacher. Stark also thanked the community for helping search for Leah in the post.

The state had issued a missing child alert and Jamesville-DeWitt school district had sent out an email requesting people’s help in locating Leah.

Police did not believe that Leah was kidnapped but were considering her an endangered juvenile. Due to the cold weather, her young age and recent medical concerns police were worried for her well-being, they said.
