The Orange (2-3) led 36-32 early in the quarter but the Golden Gophers (4-2) went on a 24-12 run to close the period.

Syracuse closed the lead to six points several times in the fourth quarter but didn’t get any closer.

“Our girls played extremely hard,” said Syracuse acting head coach Vonn Read. “In the third quarter, they scored 27 points and that was the difference in the game, but I thought we did a lot of great things offensively and defensively.”

Chrislyn Carr led Syracuse with 18 points and Christianna Carr had 16.

The Orange will next face Buffalo in the tournament’s seventh-place game at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Buffalo is coached by Felisha Legette-Jack, who had her number retired by Syracuse last Sunday.
