Parent turns in teen son who burglarized Oneida County mini mall, troopers say

Vienna, N.Y. — A 16-year-old was arrested Monday after his parent reported finding stolen items from an Oneida County mini mall, troopers said.

On Saturday, troopers received a report of a burglary at Weeden’s Mini Mall at 8056 State Route 13 in the town of Vienna, according to a news release issued by the New York State Police Department.

During the overnight hours, the glass front door was smashed in, and items from various booth vendors and the cash register were stolen, troopers said.

On Monday, the parent of the 16-year-old found several items they believed came from the mini mall, troopers said. The parent contacted the owner, who confirmed a robbery had occurred early Saturday morning, troopers said.

The parent reported the crime to police, and the 16-year-old was taken to the State Police Department in Sylvan Beach, troopers said.

During an interview, the 16-year-old confessed to committing the burglary with another juvenile, troopers said. A 13-year-old was arrested by troopers that evening, they said.

All of the stolen items were recovered from both teenagers, troopers said.

The teens were each charged with one count of third-degree burglary, a class D felony, according to the release. The identities of the two teens were not released because of their age.

The 16-year-old was arraigned in Central Arraignment Court and released on his own recognizance, troopers said. The 13-year-old was issued a Family Court appearance ticket and released.
