Frank A. Cassano, 92, of Estero, FL, and a former North Syracuse resident, died October 19.

He was a machinist/engineer with Killian Manufacturing in Syracuse, retiring in 1992 after 41 years with the company.

Cassano, who lived in North Syracuse for 54 years, served on the village board, was the village purchasing agent, and was deputy mayor, according to his obituary. He also served on the North Syracuse Central School District school board.

Cassano and his wife Mary Jane spent many years volunteering with North Area Meals on Wheels (NAMOW), delivering meals. He frequently put his metalworking expertise to use in his work with the North Syracuse Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball leagues.

His obituary states that “he was always ready at the call or visit from any child in the neighborhood with a broken bicycle, skateboards or any other sort of item that meant something to them.”

Cassano worked with Bowling Green Lanes, working on their pin-setting and ball return equipment.

He enjoyed bowling and spent years on the Killian bowling team. He also enjoyed golf in his later years.

Cassano was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cicero.

Calling hours will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main St., North Syracuse.

A Catholic funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 5 at Sacred Heart Church of Cicero, 8229 Brewerton Road, Cicero, to be followed by niche placement in North Syracuse Cemetery.

Cassano had Alzheimer’s and received help from The Dubin Center. Contributions may be made to the center in his name, the obituary said.
