Syracuse, N.Y. — Police are investigating two shootings that occurred less than an hour apart Saturday afternoon in the city’s Brighton neighborhood.

At about 2:36 p.m., officers responded to Upstate University Hospital to find a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the arm, Syracuse police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Malinowski said in a news release.

The teenager said he was shot in a car on Interstate 81 North, near the Brighton Avenue exit, according to the release.

At about 3:13 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Wiman Avenue for another shooting, Malinowski said. A 20-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the arm. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, Malinowski said.

The teenager and the man are both expected to survive, Malinowski said. The shootings are not believed to be related, he said.

Police ask anyone with information about either shootings to call the Syracuse Police Department at 315-442-5222.
