Ex-convict turns himself in after shooting during large fight in Nedrow, deputies say

Nedrow, N.Y. — An ex-convict turned himself in to police Thursday after he became a suspect in a shooting that happened during a fight Sunday night, deputies said.

Johnny Cannon III, 33, of Nedrow, was charged with with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to a news release issued by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.

Cannon was previously convicted in 2010 for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to state prison records.

On Sunday, deputies arrived at about 7:19 p.m. to the 200 block of West Roswell Avenue for a shooting with injuries call, according to the release.

A 43-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the leg, deputies said. Responding deputies applied two tourniquets to the man’s leg to control the bleeding, they said.

Additional deputies searched for the suspect, later identified as Cannon, last seen leaving the area in a dark colored vehicle, deputies said.

Witnesses told deputies that Cannon pulled out a handgun and shot the man one time in the leg after a fight broke out at a gathering behind a home on West Roswell Avenue, according to the release.

The man was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was treated and eventually released, deputies said.

Cannon was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center and was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday night, according to the release.
