Granby, N.Y – An Oswego County home caught fire for the second time in two days Thursday morning.

The home, located at 367 South Granby Rd, first caught fire early Wednesday morning just before 4 a.m., according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

Around 5 a.m. Thursday, the Granby home caught fire again, according to dispatchers.

Firefighters could not safely enter the destroyed home on Wednesday, Chief of Cody Fire Department David Edwards Jr. said. They had to fight the fire and assess the damage from the outside, he said.

Edwards said he believes this may have been the cause for the fire rekindling. The firefighters might have been unable to access areas in the home that were still smoldering or hot, he said.

Edwards said that it is not rare for an old house to rekindle after a serious fire.

There was no one at the home during either fire, Edwards said. A relative of the homeowners was in the process of clearing out the home before the fires broke out, he said.

The house was torn down Thursday morning, Edwards said.

Officials on the scene spoke to code enforcers and decided that the home was unsafe and needed to be demolished, he said.

The official cause of both fires is still under investigation, Edwards said.
