Syracuse, N.Y. — Hobby Lobby will open at Destiny USA in late December, the company said in a press release.

That’s several months earlier than expected. Mall officials said earlier this year the store won’t open until 2022.

It’s possible that could still be the case. Nikita Jankowski, Destiny’s director of marketing, said the mall still has the opening listed as next year.

Hobby Lobby, a national retailer of arts and crafts supplies, is taking over the space formerly occupied by Kauffman’s Furniture, near Macy’s.

Hobby Lobby has 900 stores in the U.S., including 21 in New York. News broke that the chain was coming to Destiny over the summer.

Also opening in December is Offline, a sub-brand of activewear and accessories from retailer Aerie. Other recent additions to the mall’s lineup include Canadian fashion retailer Ardene and fashion and lifestyle brand Hugo Boss.

Destiny was hit hard by a series of major closings in recent years as well. Anchor tenants Lord & Taylor, J.C. Penney and Best Buy all shut down and the mall also lost multiple smaller tenants.

Note: This story has been updated with the correct location of the Hobby Lobby store at Destiny and additional information on the opening date. A press release from Hobby Lobby contained incorrect information.
