Syracuse, N.Y. – A man was shot in the midsection near Onondaga Park early Thursday morning, police say.

Police were called to the 100 block of Berger Avenue for reports of a shooting with injuries, according to a news release from Syracuse police.

The 43-year-old man told police that he was shot by the intersection of Coolidge Avenue and Cheney Street, just over a mile away from where police arrived, police said.

The man traveled to Berger Avenue before calling police, Syracuse police spokesperson Sgt. Matthew Malinowski said.

The man is being treated at Upstate University hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
