Carthage JV football player ‘needs a miracle’ after collapsing on field vs. West Genesee

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Carthage junior varsity football player Tyler Christman remained hospitalized and in serious condition on Sunday after collapsing during a football game at West Genesee on Saturday.

Christman suffered a head injury, and a Facebook post from his aunt, Faith Parks, on Saturday said he was “not responding to any stimuli after his surgery. He has a great deal of brain swelling along with a bleed in his frontal cortex.”

“He needs a miracle,” Parks posted on Facebook.

Parks posted that Christman underwent more tests Sunday. Comets head coach Jason Coffman declined to comment other than to say there was no change in his condition.

West Genesee varsity coach Joe Corley, who was at the game, said there was no apparent cause of Christman’s injury.

“I honestly didn’t see anything happen,” Corley said. “We saw there was a need for a trainer, and to get the EMTs. I don’t know what happened. It didn’t look like any big hits took place. It was just a regular game as far as I could tell.”
