Syracuse, N.Y. – Gracie Barney finished a 12-mile run at Green Lakes State Park and was handing out water bottles to fellow runners when the buzzing bugs descended.

“Have you ever seen that movie, ‘The Birds?’” Barney asked. “The mosquitoes just surrounded me and my girlfriend like a swarm around us. I’ve never experienced anything like this.”
