Syracuse, N.Y. — Garrett Shrader believes he belongs on the field too.

He didn’t say it as firmly or defiantly as Tommy DeVito, the team’s veteran option and his competition for the starting job, did earlier this week. Shrader has chosen his words carefully ever since arriving in New York from Mississippi State, tactfully avoiding any sign of bravado and boastfulness.
