Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse man turned himself into police Monday and was charged with murder in the city’s latest homicide, officials said.
Nehemiah Jones, 30, is accused of shooting and killing 38-year-old Michael Simpson at about 11:15 p.m. Friday at 2505 Midland Ave., Syracuse police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Malinowski said.
Syracuse police found Simpson shot just inside the residence after they responded reports of a loud fight at the home, Malinowski said.
Simpson had been shot multiple times in the stomach, police have said. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was pronounced dead.
Syracuse police detectives immediately began investigating the homicide and interviewed “numerous people,” Malinowski said. Police also said they conducted an “extensive neighborhood canvass” and collected physical evidence related to the case. Search warrants also were issued, Malinowski said.
Police identified Jones as a suspect in the investigation, Malinowski said.
On Monday, Jones turned himself in and was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
Jones was sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center. He remains in jail Monday night.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
