Syracuse, N.Y. -- Former Syracuse men’s lacrosse player Chase Scanlan was arrested early Sunday morning in his hometown of Irving and charged with driving while intoxicated and driving without a valid driver’s license, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said that Scanlan was arrested at 2:42 a.m. on Sunday morning. The department said that he was pulled over for a driving infraction and police discovered that he was driving with a suspended license. The department also accused him of driving while intoxicated and speeding.

The department said that Scanlan was arrested and transported to the sheriff’s office substation in Hanover, where he was released. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hanover Court at a later date.

The arrest was first reported by The Post-Journal, a newspaper that serves the area around Jamestown.

It was the second time that Scanlan has been arrested in recent months. The first came on domestic violence-related charges while he was still a member of the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team.

Syracuse men’s lacrosse coach John Desko suspended Scanlan from the team following an incident in late April. He was later re-instated, a decision that Desko said was his. The other members of the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team said they would walk off the practice field if Scanlan was allowed to practice. He was suspended from the team a second time following his arrest in Syracuse in mid-May.

Scanlan’s arrest at Syracuse included allegations from the alleged victim that he had a drinking problem and anger management issues. Scanlan was accused of breaking a woman’s phone and shoving her to the ground following a night of drinking.

Scanlan’s behavior while on the Syracuse campus is currently at the center of a lawsuit against the school. The alleged victim has contended that the school was aware of issues with Scanlan’s behavior following multiple incidents and that SU did not do enough to stop it. The school has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
