Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse football’s Ben Labrosse, who began the season as the team’s starting safety, has left the program after two games, a spokesman confirmed on Monday.
The news was first reported by Stephen Bailey of 247 Sports.
Labrosse was a contributor as a true freshman last year, making 11 tackles as a reserve defensive back and special teamer. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, he was touted by teammates as one of the best athletes on the SU roster.
While Labrosse was listed as a starter, he split time with New Mexico State transfer Jason Simmons in the opener. Both players made three tackles but Simmons earned the larger share of playing time. Simmons started the second game for the Orange, while Labrosse did not play.
Labrosse, who is from Greenfield Park, Quebec, was one of four Canadian players listed on the team’s roster.
Without Labrosse listed on this week’s depth chart, Syracuse’s starters consisted of Simmons, Ja’Had Carter and Rob Hanna. The backups were Eric Coley, Justin Barron and Aman Greenwood.
