Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse firefighter was injured overnight in a fire that spread from the second floor of a multi-family residence into the attic.
The 114 Mark Ave. blaze started at the back of the residence and led to “tremendous heat” and “zero visibility” when firefighters arrived within three minutes of getting a call, the fire department said in a news release.
The 12:22 a.m. fire burned for more than 30 minutes as firefighters had trouble gaining access to the attic. Additional firefighters and trucks had to be called to the scene to assist.
The firefighter who was injured during the fire is being treated at Upstate University Hospital for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, the fire department said.
No injuries were reported to residents in the house. The Red Cross was assisting occupants.
Sunday morning, debris remained strewn outside the house after items were thrown out of windows, likely during the firefighting efforts.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
