Solvay Bank employee jailed in theft of $45,000 from customer accounts, police say

Solvay, NY -- A Solvay Bank employee was sent to jail Wednesday after being charged with stealing $45,000 from customer accounts.

Elijah J. Green, 29, of Clay, worked in the bank’s main branch on Milton Avenue, state police said. The alleged thefts occurred between July 2019 and July 2021.

Green “utilized his knowledge of the bank’s policies and procedures, to access several Solvay Bank customer accounts,” according to a state police news release. More details on the theft were not available today.

Green was charged with felony grand larceny before being held in jail until arraignment Wednesday evening. He’s expected to be released at that point, since grand larceny is not an offense for which someone can be held in jail pending trial.

The bank has contacted all of its affected customers and made each of them whole, Trooper Jack Keller said.
