Geddes, N.Y. -- Attendance for Day 6 of the New York State Fair fell short of typical numbers in past years, according to fair officials.

37,591 people attended the sixth day.

In past years, Wednesday would’ve typically been the first day of the fair. On the first day in 2019, more than 74,000 people attended the fair.

Attendance this year has been cut in about half from previous years. One possible concern is fear of the coronavirus and the emergence of the Delta variant.

Of the more than 37,000 people who attended the fair on Wednesday, fair officials estimated 30,511 of them went to the REO Speedwagon concert. That makes it the 10th-best attended fair concert ever.

Day 7 at the fair marks Dairy Day in honor of New York State’s largest agricultural sector. This year’s dairy awards will take place virtually.

Four concerts are on the fair’s Thursday schedule. Seattle Sons will perform on the Chevy Park stage at 2 p.m. while the Bad Mama’s Blues Band will perform at Chevy Court at 2 p.m.

In the evening, Three Dog Night will perform at 7 p.m. on the Chevy Court stage, while Bell Biv Devoe will perform at Chevy Park at 8 p.m.
