Five quarterbacks heard their names called in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen and Josh Rosen were all top 10 picks in the draft while Lamar Jackson had to wait to pick 32 to hear his name called. Among the five quarterbacks selected, Mayfield, Allen and Jackson have had the most success, but only Allen has received a contract extension to date.
On Friday, the Buffalo Bills signed the 25-year-old quarterback to a six-year extension worth $258 million. The deal included a record-setting $150 million in guaranteed money.
The extension is likely music to the ears of Mayfield and Jackson. Although neither will likely get the type of guaranteed money given to the Bills quarterback, Allen’s contract could help both players in their talks with the Browns and Ravens respectively.
On Sunday, Mayfield opened up about Allen’s extension. Mayfield told the media that he is focused on winning and doesn’t “give a damn” about an extension at this time, but added that he is happy for the Bills quarterback.
Via Tom Withers of the Associated Press:
“Very happy for Josh,” Mayfield said. “I think Josh is a great guy. We went through that (draft) process together and I’m very happy for him. He’s in a tradition-rich town like Buffalo and they’re lucky to have a quarterback like him.”
Mayfield may not be focused at an extension at this time, his agents will likely look over Allen’s contract closely when talking with the Browns.
