Dayton, Ohio -- Jim Boeheim plans to be here Tuesday night to watch his namesake compete for $1 million in The Basketball Tournament.
The Syracuse University basketball coach will be among the fans to see the 9 p.m. (ESPN) championship game inside the Dayton Arena. He has watched the team play on television these past couple weeks.
“They get the job done,” he said. “They just haven’t shot the ball well. That’s about the only problem. They just haven’t shot the thing. They’ve played hard. And they’re playing great at the end of the games and that’s what you have to do with that Elam Ending.
“(Tyrese) Rice is really pretty good. Their defense has been good. And they’ve done a really good job at the end of the game situations. It’s been fun watching them. Chris and Tyler have given them really good play inside. CJ has given them really good time off the bench.”
Chris McCullough and Tyler Lydon have split time at center. CJ Fair has worked at the forward spot.
SU assistants Adrian Autry and Allen Griffin watched Sunday’s TBT semifinal in Dayton. Jim Boeheim said he wasn’t sure which of his family members will accompany him, though his sister, Barbara, will fly in for the game from her home in Virginia. Barbara Boeheim has attended several Boeheim’s Army games over the years.
“I don’t know exactly who’s coming. I’m coming. That’s all I know for sure,” Boeheim said. “The boys might come. I’m not sure yet.”
The Boeheims have been in New York City for the past few days. They were supposed to leave from there for Spain to embark on a basketball playing tour of that country with USA East Coast basketball. Those games were canceled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
