Syracuse, N.Y. — The Nike EYBL Peach Jam is back after being cancelled due to the coronavirus in 2020, and this year’s nationwide high school basketball tournament features plenty of players that are being recruited by Syracuse.

The tournament, held in North Augusta, South Carolina, will consist of a group play stage until Friday, then shift to single-elimination games over the weekend. The championship game will be played Sunday.

The event serves as a recruiting hotspot for college coaches, who will get the chance to see players in-person against high-level competition after spending the last year evaluating prospects through Zoom and other digital platforms.

There are six players (two verbally committed) on the Syracuse radar that are participating in this week’s Peach Jam. Here’s a rundown of how they fared on Day 1.

Syracuse’s recent commit Justin Taylor scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and had six assists in Team Takeover’s 65-61 loss to Pro Skills. He also added three steals and one block.

The New York Renaissance features two players that are being heavily recruited by Syracuse in four-star guard Chance Westry and four-star forward Kyle Filipowski. Westry totaled a team-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals in Tuesday’s 90-80 win over Phenom University. Filipowski tallied a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.

NJ Scholars guard Quadir Copeland scored six points, had three rebounds and dished out four assists in Tuesday’s 68-52 loss to New Heights Lightning.

Kamari Lands, the first player in the Class of 2022 to commit to the program, plays for Team Why Not in the consolation bracket of the tournament. He did not play in Tuesday’s 68-51 win over Bates Fundamentals.

La Lumiere guard JJ Starling, of Baldwinsville, did not play with the Albany City Rocks during their 64-50 loss to MoKan Elite on Tuesday.

All games are live-streamed for free daily on the Nike EYBL website.
