Geneva, NY. — More than 1,000 athletes from 20 countries finished the Ironman 70.3 Musselman on Sunday.

The winner was Matt Schafer, 24, of Boston, Mass., with a time of 3:57:35. The top female was Rebecca Hayes, 38, of Lancaster, Pa., with a time of 4:34:51.

The triathlon includes a 1.2-mile swim in Seneca Lake, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run.

A sprint distance event was held Saturday.

Ironman, which is owned by the World Triathlon Corporation, bought the rights to put on the Musselman which had previously been operated locally. It’s the only Ironman-branded race in Central New York. The Syracuse Ironman 70.3 was discontinued in 2018. Ironman Lake Placid is scheduled for July 25.

200 qualifying slots were offered to the 2021 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in St George, Utah.
