Tickets are almost completely sold out for Sir Elton John’s concert at Syracuse University next year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get seats.

Elton John will perform at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Sept. 10, 2022, at 8 p.m. The show will be one of his final U.S. shows ever, as he concludes his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road: The Final Tour” with a series of stadium dates.

Approximately 300 non-resale tickets remain on Ticketmaster, which suggests at least 30,000 tickets have been sold based on the Carrier Dome map for the stage set up. Pete Sala, managing director for the Carrier Dome, wouldn’t confirm actual figures but told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard earlier this month: “We are very happy with where we are at this point.”

Even if the concert ends up “sold out,” though, you can still get tickets — if you’re willing to spend some money.

Prices originally started at $55 (plus additional fees), but the cheapest tickets left on Ticketmaster are now $172 for nosebleed seats in the furthest back rows. Less than two weeks ago, the site’s cheapest remaining tickets were $149.50; Ticketmaster has a policy on prices fluctuating with demand and also allows “verified” ticket resellers.

As of Monday morning, some of the cheapest tickets you can still buy for Elton John are $135 on StubHub for seats in upper sections 321 and 316.

On other third-party sites like MegaSeats, TicketNetwork and Vivid Seats, tickets are even higher. Front-row floor seats are $8,700 — each — on StubHub and as high as $13,365 on MegaSeats.

It may sound like a lot, but keep in mind this will be Syracuse’s last chance to see the 74-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer in concert. He last came through Upstate New York on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour” with a 2018 concert in Buffalo and a 2019 show in Albany; the Carrier Dome is his only stop in New York state on his new farewell tour dates.

Tickets for SU’s last “major” concert went as high as $11,000 when Paul McCartney played the Carrier Dome in 2017, and tickets for John are going

Oddly enough, a VIP package now looks cheap by comparison. Ticketmaster still has 30 tickets left for the “Ultimate” Elton John VIP Experience, a $2,002 package that includes a reserved floor seat in the “ULTRA-Exclusive VIP Section” (in the middle of the Carrier Dome floor near the mixing board), plus a collectible concert chair, VIP hospitality lounge access (with complimentary beer, wine, soft drinks, hors d’oeuvres and desserts), a champagne toast, welcome gift, a “behind the scenes” backstage tour, an on-stage photo opportunity at Elton John’s piano, VIP preferred parking, custom merchandise and more.

John previously performed at the Carrier Dome in 1992 and with Billy Joel in 2001; the latter concert featuring the two piano legends drew 38,500 fans to the Dome. John also played the War Memorial in 1970, 1971 and 2000.

The singer-songwriter born Reginald Dwight, whose life was chronicled in the 2019 biopic “Rocketman,” is performing hits from his 50-year career including “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Rocket Man,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Your Song,” “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting),” “I’m Still Standing” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” He also famously composed songs for Disney’s 1994 film “The Lion King,” including “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Circle of Life.”

John’s concert will be the first in the Carrier Dome since the stadium underwent major renovations, including changes to the roof, a massive center-hung video scoreboard, an enhanced sound system, and the addition of air conditioning. Fans were first able to experience the improvements in March when attendance was opened up for Syracuse lacrosse games after a year shut down by the coronavirus pandemic.

New York state recently ended most remaining Covid-19 rules after hitting Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s vaccination goal of 70% of adults getting at least one shot. Indoor theaters, arenas, stadiums and other venues that hold over 5,000 people can open up to 100% capacity with no social distancing or masks, but attendees must show proof of vaccination; unvaccinated people must currently still show proof of a recent negative Covid test if they are over the age of 4 and must continue wearing masks.
