Colesville, N.Y. — A man who shot a trooper Wednesday night in the Binghamton area was captured Thursday, according to state police.

The shooting happened around 8:36 p.m. Wednesday after troopers and Broome County deputies went to East Windsor Road in Colesville for a welfare check.

During the call, Jason D. Johnson, 34, shot Trooper Becky Seager in the hip, according to state police.

Johnson engaged officers in a shootout before fleeing from the scene, troopers said.

A deputy pulled Seager away from the gunfire and drove her to an ambulance, which transported her to the UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, state police said. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

Officers from multiple agencies — including the FBI and SWAT teams — had been searching the Colesville area for Johnson.

Johnson was captured in Colesville near a river bank off State Route 79 at about 4:30 p.m., police said.
