Albany, N.Y. — Covid-19 hospitalizations in New York fell 19 Wednesday to 758.
Hospitalizations have fallen sharply in recent weeks and are at their lowest point in months.
A total of 190 people were in intensive care units with the coronavirus yesterday, down five, and 113 were intubated, down seven.
The state confirmed 566 new Covid cases Wednesday and reported another 139,492 test results. The statewide percentage of people testing positive for the virus was 0.41%.
In Central New York, the seven-day average of the percentage of people testing positive for the virus was 0.76% yesterday, unchanged from the day before. The statewide seven-day average was 0.47%, down from 0.48% the previous day.
So far, 69.2% of adults in New York have received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state said. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said earlier this week that nearly all of the state’s remaining Covid rules will end once that number reaches 70%.
Another nine people in New York died Wednesday due to Covid, which brings the statewide death toll to 42,833.
Cuomo announced today that several state-run drive-thru Covid testing sites will begin to shut down Friday. The locations include three in New York City, one in Buffalo, one on Long Island and one at Griffiss International Airport in Rome in Oneida County.
Currently scheduled tests won’t be affected.
Demand for drive-thru tests dropped 88% between January and May, according to Cuomo’s office.
