Syracuse, N.Y. – Fayetteville residents are the most likely in Onondaga County to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Residents of Syracuse’s Near West Side and Tipperary Hill are the least likely.

County officials increasingly are holding pop-up vaccination clinics in neighborhoods where participation has lagged. They are guided by data that breaks down the percentage of people vaccinated thus far in each ZIP Code.

The lowest vaccination rate thus far is in ZIP Code 13204, which includes the Near West Side and Tipperary Hill. Only 23.9% of eligible adults had been vaccinated there as of April 23, the most recent data available, county officials said. The highest rate was in ZIP Code 13066, in Fayetteville, where 56% of adults had been vaccinated.

Several poor neighborhoods in Syracuse are among the least vaccinated. Poverty is one of the barriers officials have faced in trying to give people shots, County Executive Ryan McMahon said today.

To overcome access issues, including transportation, the county will hold small pop-up clinics in urban neighborhoods that have lagged in vaccines. The same goes for suburban areas with low participation, such as Skaneateles Falls or Bridgeport, he said.

“We’re in the process where you have to go micro-target,’' McMahon said. “You have to make sure there is complete access to this vaccine.’'
