Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse man accused of being one of the leaders of the January insurrection at the U.S. Capitol had a “arsenal” of illegal weapons, ammunition and war gear at his Eastwood home when it was raided weeks later, federal prosecutors said.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Syracuse released photos presented to a judge Monday in successfully arguing that Matthew Greene, 33, of 264 Burns Ave., should remain locked up until trial.

The photos include weaponry, ammunition and camouflage gear found at Greene’s residence during a Jan. 18 raid. Also included are images that prosecutors say show Greene at the Jan. 6 insurrection. Lastly, several receipts are photographed showing purchases of ammo and war gear in the days after the insurrection.
Greene faces four federal felonies and three misdemeanors for his actions in the Capitol insurrection. If convicted of the top count, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
The first photo, shown at the top of this story, depicts Greene, in goggles at the far right, as the crowd surged over police barricades into the Capitol. One of Greene’s co-defendants, Dominic Pezzola, center with the beard, is accused of being the man holding a riot shield that had moments before been forcibly taken from a Capitol police officer.
Here’s a look at other photos presented by the government in court:
This AR-15 assault rifle was found in Greene’s home during the Jan. 18 raid. It includes a place for a high-capacity magazine and includes a long range optical lens, tactical lighting and other accessories.
The above photo shows a camouflage tactical vest found during the raid at Greene’s residence on Jan. 18. This vest contained eight high-capacity magazines for an AR-15 assault rifle. The high-capacity magazines are illegal in New York state.
The above photo shows the same tactical vest at Greene’s residence, with the eight high-capacity ammunition magazines removed from the vest’s pockets. All eight magazines were full of 30 rounds each, prosecutor say.

The above photo shows a camouflage backpack found at Greene’s residence Jan. 18 with a Kevlar-grade helmet inside. The backpack is the same one Greene is seen wearing during the insurrection, prosecutors say.
The above photo shows a Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun found in a drop-down secret compartment that folds up to look like a bookshelf. The compartment requires a key card to open, prosecutors say. The gun and secret compartment were found in Greene’s residence. He has no pistol permit to possess such a gun, prosecutors say.
The above photo shows a Colt semi-automatic handgun found in Greene’s residence. Greene’s defense lawyer said he earned it in commemoration of his military service.
The above photo shows a 12 gauge shotgun found during the raid of Greene’s residence. It was not seized, as shotguns do not require a permit in New York state.
The above photo shows a bolt-action rifle found in Greene’s residence. It was not seized, as rifles are legal without a permit.

The above image shows a portion of a receipt that prosecutors say was found on Greene’s phone. It’s for a purchase of a gas mask and related gear, ordered after Jan. 6, they say.
Greene was identified as the man circled in goggles and a blue hoodie outside the U.S Capitol on Jan. 6.
The above photo shows Greene in a confrontation with Capitol police on Jan. 6, 2021, prosecutors say.
The above photo shows Matthew Greene, circled in bottom left, surging toward the U.S. Capitol as part of a crowd. The man circled in the middle is co-defendant Dominic Pezzola, prosecutors say. Pezzola is carrying the riot shield taken from a Capitol police officer, prosecutors say.
