Deputies arrest two men after shootout at Homewood Suites hotel in Salina

Salina, N.Y. — Two Syracuse men have been accused of shooting at each other last fall outside of a Salina hotel, authorities announced today.

Cassieum Pitts, 24, and Maurice Owens, 20, have been charged with firing guns at each other in Homewood Suites’ parking lot. The Syracuse men were arrested by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office after a months-long investigation, said Sgt. Jon Seeber, sheriff’s office spokesman.

The shootout happened at 11:18 p.m. Nov. 30 outside Homewood Suites at 275 Elwood David Road off of 7th North Street.

Pitts and Owens shot at each other in the hotel’s parking lot during a gang-related dispute, Seeber said. The shooters fled before deputies arrived, he said.

No one was injured.

Pitts was arrested Feb. 19. Owens was arrested Tuesday.

Both men have been charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminal use of a firearm, all felonies.

Pitts was released from the Onondaga County Justice Center on Feb. 20 after he posted a $20,000 bail bond, Seeber said. Owens was released from jail Wednesday afer he posted a $10,000 bond, he said.
