Ever since the Dobbs decision came down, I’ve been inundated with news on my beat. It’s literally my job to keep up with it all, and it’s been overwhelming and exhausting. Over the past few months, as state legislatures have been in session, there has been even more of a flood of developments in our post­-Roe America. If I’m struggling to keep up, I bet y’all might be feeling the crush of it all, too.

That’s why we’ve decided to launch this newsletter to help make sense of it all. Reproductive Justice with Becca Andrews will adhere to the reproductive justice framework, as defined by a group of Black women in the 90s. The framework broadly holds three core values—the right to have a child, the right to not have a child, and the right to parent a child or children in safe and healthy environments. In short: it’s about more than abortion. We’re concerned about the loss of abortion rights, and we’re concerned about how that affects maternal health care, infant care, etc.

Expect a solid roundup of RJ-related news every week (Honey subscribers, this feature will be familiar to you). We’ll have interviews with experts and the people who are being affected by the loss of abortion care, as well as behind-the-scenes looks at my investigative reporting and answers to all your questions about the ever-shifting legal landscape and your practical concerns.

If you’re not familiar with my work, I’ve spent nearly eight years of my career reporting on access to reproductive health care by examining the strategies of abortion opponents, spending time on the ground with clinics, abortion rights advocates, and patients, and studying the ever-changing legal landscape.
