Pa. logs highest one-day total of new COVID-19 infections in months: Wednesday update

Pennsylvania registered 7,606 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, its highest one-day count since January.

The state also logged 100 new deaths, raising its pandemic toll to 33,521.

Pennsylvania’s seven-day average of new cases stood at 5,709 as of Tuesday, according to tracking by The New York Times. Its seven-day average of deaths stood at 60.

COVID-19 hospitalizations rose again on Wednesday, with hospitals caring for 3,939 COVID-19 patients, including 858 in intensive care. That’s up from 3,876 hospitalizations on Tuesday, although the number receiving intensive care dropped by 15 from Tuesday.

Pennsylvania’s 14-day average of hospitalizations reached 3,417 on Wednesday, according to state health department data. It was 2,596 on Nov. 15.

About 69% of Pennsylvanians 18 or older are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
