New details emerged Wednesday evening following the death of Baltimore Ravens linebacker/defensive end Jaylon Ferguson.

Baltimore Police said they found the 26-year-old, who was heading into his fourth season, unresponsive in his north Baltimore home just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. They said they received a call to go there to investigate a “questionable death,” and that they found Ferguson unresponsive when they arrived.

They said that paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, and there were no signs of trauma or foul play. According to The New York Times, police said Ferguson was sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, and they “are not ruling out an overdose.”

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Ferguson was the Ravens’ third-round pick out of Louisiana Tech in the 2019 draft. He played in 38 games, making 10 starts since then, and had 4.5 sacks.

“We are profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of Jaylon Ferguson,” the Ravens said in a statement earlier Wednesday. “He was a kind, respectful young man with a big smile and infectious personality. We express our heartfelt condolences to Jaylon’s family and friends as we mourn a life lost much too soon.”

It was a particularly tough day for the Ravens as news of the passing for former Baltimore standout defensive tackle Tony Siragusa was reported.

Ferguson is the third NFL player to die this offseason.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was killed in April when he was struck by a dump truck while walking along a South Florida highway after his car ran out of gas. Arizona Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney was killed in a car crash in Dallas on May 30.
