Three more amusement parks in Pennsylvania have announced that by the end of the month they will no longer be accepting cash.
Kennywood Park in West Mifflin, Idlewild & Soak Zone in Ligonier, and Sandcastle Water Park in West Homestead have all announced via their websites that they will be going cashless before the end of June.
“Beginning June 28th, Kennywood will accept only electronic payments such as debit cards, credit cards, and mobile payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay,” read a statement on the Kennywood Park website. “All you have to do is swipe or tap to pay at any admissions office, food stand, gift shop, or park game – no digging for change to pay or waiting for cash back from our staff. Moving to a fully electronic payment system will streamline the payment process for both Guests and Team Members, making paying for everything from tickets to sweet treats safer, simpler, and more secure.”
A similar statement can be found on the Sandcastle Water Park website. The statement on the Idlewild website is nearly identical, except that Idlewild & Soak Zone will go cashless starting on June 29th instead.
On all three websites, there are further instructions on how guests with cash can instead exchange that money at certain kiosks found throughout the parks for cards that hold the same amount.
The three parks are all owned by Palace Entertainment, which also owns Dutch Wonderland. Dutch Wonderland had previously announced their own move to a cashless business model, which began on April 16. Hersheypark also went cashless earlier this year, starting on April 2.
