Overnight Dauphin County blaze being investigated as arson: state police

An overnight fire that destroyed some vacant Dauphin County homes was deliberately set, authorities said.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an early Wednesday fire in Halifax as arson, Trooper Kelly Abati said.

Abati said the blaze started around 2:20 a.m. on the 100 block of Armstrong Street, in two houses and a multi-unit, row-style apartment building.

No one inside the homes or injured in the fire, Abati said.

“The damaged properties belonged to two owners,” she said. “They included two houses and a multi-unit row style apartment building; however, there was no one living in any of them for a few years. The apartments were under renovation and didn’t have electricity.”

The state police’s fire marshal is on the scene Wednesday morning, trying to determine the fire’s origin, Abati said.

“We are asking the public to please come forward if anyone was seen in or near the buildings or if anyone has any information about people going inside,” she siad. “They can call PSP-Lykens at 717-362-8700 and ask for [Abati] or Tpr. Michael Giacobbe directly.”
