Veterans Day observed in Carlisle

Veterans Day is Thursday. Here’s a look at a few of the events on the calendar:

Veterans Day Event Presentation

11 a.m. Thursday at Mechanicsburg VFW Post 6704, 4907 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg

This event is coordinated with the Blankets of Honor group, which is dedicated to presenting blankets veterans, their support or caregivers, Gold Star families and first responders in honor of their service and sacrifice. More details can be found here.

Veterans Day programming

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday at The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center, 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg

Veterans can attend the Film, Cyclorama & Museum Experience for free on Veteran’s Day, and attendees on Nov. 11 can see the Gettysburg Cyclorama fully illuminated. Get more information here.

Generations of Soldier Heritage: Veterans Day Enlistment Ceremony

10:30 a.m. Thursday at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, 950 Soldier Drive, Carlisle

Ten soldiers will take the Oath of Enlistment at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center at a ceremony on Veteran’s Day. The event is open to the public and will include speakers Lt. Col. J. Brad Fausnaugh of the Army War College and Army veteran Ed Miller. The ceremony will be held inside in the event of rain. More information can be found here.

Veterans Day event

Noon-8 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Libhart-Dyer Post 197, 213 N. Front Street, Bainbridge

The public is welcome to visit the American Legion post and enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers off the grill. More details can be found at the event’s Facebook page.

2021 Lancaster County Veterans’ Day Ceremony

11 a.m. Thursday at Veterans Plaza, 150 North Queen Street, Lancaster

This ceremony will honor Lancaster County veterans, with a special commemoration for those who served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm in the Gulf War. Christopher Riggs, Lancaster County’s chief deputy sheriff and a veteran of the Gulf War, will provide remarks at the event.

Veteran’s Day Service

9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 40 West Pine Street, Palmyra

The annual Veteran’s Day Service will include the Capitol Police Color Guard, Pennsylvania state representative Frank Ryan and participating local veterans.

Veterans Day Ceremony

1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 at 80 Willow Mill Park Road, Mechanicsburg

This event is hosted by Silver Springs Township, and will include a singer and Junior ROTC detachment from Cumberland Valley High School, as well as teh Capital Area PA Young Marines Detachment 784, student readers for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, and readings from essay winners from Cumberland Valley High School and Eagle View Middle School.
