Six people were injured during the shooting and immediate aftermath at a Lancaster mall on Sunday afternoon, according to police.
Lancaster City officers are still investigating the shooting that occurred at Park City Center mall around 2:30 p.m.
According to an update on Sunday evening, the shooting stemmed from a fight between several males, ages not provided, near the JC Penney’s in the mall.
One of them was armed with a handgun, and during the fight the gun was fired multiple times, police said.
Kevin Young, of Lancaster, was shopping inside the mall when the shooting began. He told LancasterOnline that “there were too many to count,” adding that “It was like a lot of firecrackers going off.”
Three males and one female were treated for gunshot injuries and two other females suffered injuries while trying to run away from the area, police said. None of the injuries was life-threatening, police said.
Investigators on Sunday night were still at the mall, which closed soon after the incident occurred. It is expected to reopen Monday. Officers were gathering video footage from surveillance cameras as well as videos recorded on personal phones.
Police were also still talking with witnesses and employees.
While several news outlets reported that multiple individuals were in custody, police have yet to confirm that.
Anyone with information on the shooting or what led to the original fight are asked to contact police at 717-735-3301.
