‘Significant criminal act’ impairs Lancaster County publisher’s ability to print its newspapers

A “significant criminal act” that has hamstrung the ability of a Lancaster County publisher to print its newspapers is under investigation by federal authorities, the executive editor of LNP told readers Saturday.

The nature of that act remains unclear, and no one has been charged in the incident at Steinman Communications, top editor Tom Murse said in a note on the front page of the LNP paper.

The incident was discovered Thursday, he said. Murse said the resulting problems have “dramatically limited our company’s ability to publish complete newspapers, respond to customers and work with advertisers.”

“Our staff will work to continue publishing smaller editions of each of our newspapers: the daily LNP and weekly Lancaster Farming, Ephrata Review, Lititz Record, Elizabethtown Advocate and The Caucus,”Murse said.

He said the firm’s website, LancasterOnline.com, “will be free to everyone” until the problem is rectified.

“Because of the significant technical challenges we face, our deadlines will be earlier in the evening. Coverage of Friday night’s high school football games appear on LancasterOnline.com and will be published in the Sunday LNP,” he wrote. “I ask for your patience and hope you’ll continue reading.”
