We agree—it would be lovely!
We actually did extended our Friday hours this year. We used to close on Fridays at 5 PM, but over the past few years, there were consistently students who wanted to stay later; now we are open until 8 PM on Fridays.
As you may be aware, student employment hours have been reduced for many job sites across campus, including the library. We pinched and squeezed every way we could just to cover the hours we are open this year. When considering which hours to keep open and which we had to let go, we based our decisions on gate counts across the past few years and only reduced the times which consistently had the lowest demand.
That doesn’t mean no one wants to study, say, on a Saturday night; rather, that we have consistently seen considerably fewer students who want to be in the library at that time.
If budget conditions are favorable next year, we would be delighted to extend our hours again.
