Biography

2022: Had a second fantastic season in his final year with the program. Earned second-team All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches and first-team All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches and the D2 Conference Commissioners Association. Was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Goalkeeper of the Year for a second straight season and earned first-team All-CCAA honors. Started all 20 games for the Golden Eagles and had a 15-2-3 record and a 0.73 goals against average. Had seven shutouts and three combined shutouts and posted a .833 save percentage while making 70 saves. Made a season-high seven saves in a 1-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 23. Matched that with seven saves in NCAA Super Region 4 playoff game against Northwest Nazarene on Nov. 12. Made five saves to lift the Golden Eagles to a first-ever win at Simon Fraser on Aug. 27. Also had five saves in a 4-3 win over Biola on Sept. 7 and five saves in a 6-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 17. Made a total of seven saves in 2-1 wins over Sonoma State on Nov. 4 and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Nov. 6 to lead the Golden Eagles to the CCAA Tournament title. Was named to the CCAA All-Tournament team for a second straight season. Earned a 2022-23 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award and received 2022 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. For his Cal State LA career, had a record of 33-4-6 with a 0.62 goals against average and a .858 save percentage. Had a total of 163 saves. Finished his Cal State LA career tied for No. 1 with 33 wins, No. 4 in shutouts with 20, No. 3 in goals against average at 0.62, No. 3 in save percentage at .858 and No. 6 in saves with 163. For his collegiate career, finished with a record of 58-4-7 with two national championships, one at Charleston and one at Cal State LA.

2021: Had a remarkable season for the national champions in his first year with the program. Earned first-team All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches and second-team All-America honors from the D2 Conference Commissioners Association. Earned first-team All-Region honors from both organizations. Was named the CCAA Goalkeeper of the Year and earned first-team All-CCAA honors. Was tremendous during the postseason and earned All-Tournament honors at the CCAA Championships and NCAA Championships. Was the defensive MVP of the CCAA Championships. Posted shutouts in Cal State LA’s last three contests – the Super Region 4 title match against Cal Poly Pomona on Dec. 4, the national semifinal game against Nova Southeastern that included three unbelievable saves in the penalty-kick shootout after a 0-0 tie and the national championship game in a 1-0 win over Charleston. Finished the season with an 18-2-3 record and a 0.54 goals against average with 13 shutouts. Had a save percentage of 0.877 while making 93 saves. In five NCAA playoff games, made 26 saves and allowed only two goals with three shutouts. Made three saves, including an incredible second-half stop from well off his line in a 1-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona in the Super Region 4 title game on Dec. 4. Made three saves in the 0-0 tie against Nova Southeastern in the national semifinals on Dec. 9 and then added three more in the shootout to allow Cal State LA to advance after the Golden Eagles missed their first two attempts. Capped off the postseason with four saves in the 1-0 win over Charleston in the national championship game on Dec. 11. Made a season-high 11 saves in Cal State LA’s 2-1 overtime win over Colorado Mesa on Dec. 2. Made his Cal State LA debut against Simon Fraser on Sept. 5 and posted his first shutout against Azusa Pacific on Dec. 10. Was part of a second straight national championship team.

At University of Charleston: Had a 25-0-1 record in 28 appearances over two seasons with the Golden Eagles. Had a total of 19 shutouts in the two seasons. Allowed only five goals and had 10 shutouts in 18 games in 2019 while helping his team win the NCAA Division II championship. Had a goals against average of 0.274 in his two seasons and made 51 saves.

At Ribalta High School: Competed in soccer.

Personal: Son of Jesus and Elisa Dean. Is pursuing his Master’s degree in business administration. Enjoys playing the guitar and piano. Lists winning the national championship two years in a row as his most exciting experience in sports.
