BLACK's electoral organizing program engages and mobilizes the electorate (all the people in a political jurisdiction who are entitled to vote in an election) to win local and state elections.

At BLACK, we are building a strategy around our votes and leveraging electoral wins to advance progressive local and state policies and budget wins. 

Voting, alone, has not and will not save us. And yet, the individuals who win on election day will have considerable influence on the lives of Black people across the state of Kentucky. 

At BLACK, we are committed to registering voters. We also offer tools and resources to support voters in feeling confident and informed at the polls and we organize to protect the right to vote through election protection. 

Grassroots Organizing Leadership Development (GOLD) is an emerging Kentucky community organizing fellowship for Black and BIPOC Kentuckians to build skills that support people learning the necessary values, concepts, history, and practices to directly engage their neighbors in ways that encourage participation in improving community conditions and social issues.

While many resources across Kentucky prioritize lobbying, litigation, and policy creation, we continue to lose on our issues without an investment into an organized base of Kentuckians who can learn about the issues and collaborate with each other to create change in order to build a healthy and safe movement ecosystem rooted in relationship building.

BLACK’s political education program offers skills, tools, support, and practice to examine and question how the world works in order to disrupt and dismantle oppressive systems of power and transform and realign future systems and structures.

Throughout the curriculum, participants will learn about and discuss various possibilities for change that currently exist in our political reality and share their visions for what it could look like to go beyond what is currently possible.
