GREATER IDAHO QUESTION MAKES JOSEPHINE COUNTY BALLOT

February 25, 2022 3:50 a.m.

The Greater Idaho question will make the Josephine County ballot in May.

On Wednesday that county’s Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to refer a non-binding question regarding Greater Idaho to the Primary Election. According to proponent Mike McCarter, the question reads, “In your opinion, should Josephine County, along with other rural counties, separate from Oregon and become part of Idaho?”.

McCarter said the Greater Idaho movement proposes moving the Oregon/Idaho border so that eastern and southern Oregon would be governed by Idaho. 8 counties in rural Oregon have voted in favor of the movement’s ballot initiatives so far.

Along with Josephine County, Douglas and Klamath counties will vote on Greater Idaho ballot measures this spring. If approved, McCarter said this will create an unbroken line of counties that have voted in favor of the idea: from Reedsport on the Pacific Ocean, all the way to Ontario on the Oregon/Idaho border.
