GRADUATION GUIDE


Welcome to CSUCI! This brochure is designed to make sure you are successful here and to help you stay on track to graduate in a timely manner – four years if you are starting as a freshman, two years if you are a transfer. Inside you will find concrete steps you should take each year and tips to help you get the most out of your experience at CSUCI. Each year has three key items, “Tips for Success”, “Checklist” and “Fundamentals” to help keep you on track. We have also included descriptions of key departments on campus, highlighted within the grey arrows, that will aid in your academic success at CSUCI.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

Student organizations design and implement programs, events and activities which support and enrich the goals of CSUCI’s educational mission. Sophomore

A DEGREE IN FOUR YEARS AT A GLANCE In order to graduate in four years, students must complete 15 units per semester, or a total of 30 units per year.

• Complete GE courses • Choose a Major • Enroll in lower division major courses • Complete prerequisite courses

Junior Senior

• Meet with your major advisor • Take UDGE courses • Take upper division major courses • Monitor your CARR

Tips for Success • Memorize your CSUCI student ID number • Develop relationships with professors through office hours • Attend the Major Fair to explore CSUCI’s majors • Familiarize yourself with the library services • Complete English Writing (A2) and Math (B4) GE requirements • Begin taking other General Education courses, such as Areas A1 or A3 • Visit Career & Leadership Development • Create a LinkedIn Profile for job searching and networking • Seek tutoring at STEM Center, Learning Resource Center, or Writing & Multiliteracy Center • Get involved on campus or student leadership

LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is open to support all members of the CSUCI community in their academic endeavors. We offer free one-on-one peer tutoring in mathematics during all business hours, as well as peer tutoring in other subjects depending on tutor availability. Our tutors will help students with study skills, fundamental concepts, comprehension, homework, test preparation, and much more. Tutors at the LRC work with students to foster better understanding and promote learning. go.csuci.edu/lrc

WRITING & MULTILITERACY CENTER

At the Writing & Multiliteracy Center (WMC), students receive free support services and programs (such as tutoring in writing and public speaking, workshops, writing labs, online consultations) that help them address challenges of effectively communicating in written, oral, visual, multimodal, and digital formats. Available to all students across disciplines at any stage of their academic career, WMC tutoring is one of the most critical tools students can use to achieve college success and timely completion of coursework leading to graduation. www.csuci.edu/wmc/

 View your Academic Requirements Report (CARR) to track your degree progress

 Meet with your Major Advisor

 New transfer students, familiarize yourself with policies, procedures, and the CSUCI catalog

 New transfer students, review your Transfer Credit Report in CI Records

 If you earned an Associate of Science for Transfer or Associate of Art for Transfer, send an official transcript with the degree posted

 Enroll in upper division major classes

 Understand CSUCI’s Upper Division General Education (UDGE) requirement

 Finish any remaining lower division major or GE requirements

 Check your myCI account for any holds or outstanding obligations

Guided by the philosophy that career development is a lifelong process of exploration and decision-making, Career & Leadership Development (CLD) delivers programs and student services designed to enrich the whole development of CSUCI students. We are your one stop resource center for all of your graduate school needs.
