Below you'll find a list of upcoming activities led by classmates and visiting scholars, as a way to continue learning and growing while remaining physically distant.

*These sessions will be recorded and posted to the public. By participating in the Google Hangout you are giving consent to be recorded by the University of Connecticut.* Students who wish to participate in the live demonstrations but may be uncomfortable being recorded can turn off the camera and microphone, but continue to stay and enjoy the class.

Relaxation and Conversation with Global Gateways

Global Gateways will be leading simple activities and allow participants to follow along while we discuss how they are adjusting and coping with quarantine.

Global Gateways is a program under the Asian American Cultural Center (AsACC) that serves as a platform for international and domestic students alike to connect and chat. We hope to educate and integrate students of different backgrounds by encouraging them to communicate and gain a better understanding of one another.

Looking to take a break after finals, but still looking to be globally engaged? Lionheart is a 2018 Nigerian drama film, and the first Netflix original film to be produced in Nigeria. Join Irvine Peck's-Agaya for a viewing and short-post movie discussion about major themes in the movie.

Film Synopsis: "Running a company can be challenging, especially if you are a female in a male-dominated industry. Looking to prove her worth, Adaeze steps up to the challenge when her father is forced to take a step back due to health issues."

Preeti NemaDuring this time of social distancing, and for a welcomed break for Finals Week, Preeti Nema, a graduate student from MSBAPM, will conduct a 30 minute online Yoga Nidra session for breathing exercises and relaxation. Yoga Nidra is a practice of meditation by rotating awareness to areas of stress for conscious relaxation and deep nourishment. Nema is a certified instructor in Hatha Yoga.

For this session, no prior experience with any form of Yoga is required, but it is suggested you participate from a quiet area and a comfortable space like a chair or a mat.

Qing WangIn this 45-minute workshop of mindfulness practice for anxiety/stress reduction, I will briefly introduce the concept of mindfulness, the basic attitudes of mindfulness practice, and guide participants through some fundamental forms of mindfulness practice, e.g., mindful breathing, body scan. I will also invite everyone to talk about ideas of informal mindfulness practice - integrating mindfulness into everyday life activities.

Tam Vu

Spring Rolls are a traditional Vietnamese meal, prepared with with noodles, peanut sauce, meats, and veggies. Join Tam, a member of the Vietnamese Student Association, as she teaches how to prep and make a classic variation of spring rolls, all the while learning a little Vietnamese along the way!

Tam Vu is a freshman undergraduate student studying Political Science and Economics. For her demonstration, she will show the audience a classic variation of the Vietnamese spring roll, with boiled shrimp, peanut butter sauce, rice noodles, pork, and veggies, but feel free to switch out with any other ingredients! She will also be offering replacements for some of these ingredients in her demonstration.

For those who would like to follow along with the demonstration, here is a list of ingredients:

2 pork loins 1 package of mini cucumbers
1 lb uncooked shrimp (peeled and deveined) 1 box of regular lettuce
1 package of rice paper (Three Ladies brand, can be found in your local Asian supermarket) 1 bottle of sriracha
1 bottle of soybean sauce (La Bo De) 1-2 tbsp fish sauce
1 package of Asian Boy rice noodles 1 tbsp flour
7-8 sprigs of Thai basil

Join Sanjana Javeri, a UConn Alum and former captain of UConn's Award-Winning Husky Bhangra Dance Team, as she teaches you a modern bhangra dance that is sure to get your feet moving and blood pumping!
