I make decisions for my intersex body

What is intersex?

Intersex is an umbrella term for variations in sex traits or reproductive anatomy. These traits might not fit inside traditional conceptions of what male or female bodies look like. Intersex people are born with variations in their internal or external anatomy, hormones or chromosomes.

Intersex people deserve bodily autonomy.

The problem is, children’s bodies are often changed for them because of shame and stigma. This includes medically unnecessary surgeries to create a vagina, reduce a clitoris, move a urethra, or remove testes. Most surgeries happen before the age of two. We’ve worked with many of the world’s top human rights organizations. All agree: surgeries to change sex traits must be the individual’s choice.

What we’re here for.

That’s why interACT works to empower intersex youth and advance the rights of all people with innate variations in their physical sex characteristics through advocacy, public engagement and community connection.
