Finding Stillness with Ryan Holiday

Finding Stillness with Ryan Holiday

Ryan Holiday is the #1 bestselling author of The Obstacle Is the WayEgo Is the Enemy, and Stillness Is the Key. He is one of the world’s foremost thinkers and writers on Stoicism, ancient philosophy, and its place in everyday life. We discuss:

  • Why the key to getting ahead is staying still
  • How a Buddhist baseball player cleared his mind—and made history
  • What Elon Musk, Leonardo da Vinci, and Ferdinand Magellan all have in common
  • Which 2,000-year-old words ring truer now than ever

“All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.” Blaise Pascal wrote those words almost 400 years ago. And, of course, he had no idea how much harder this feat of stillness, of sitting with ourselves, would become.

I hope you all are finding some quiet time this summer. Ideally not in a room. I hope you’re outside, perhaps on a kayak. Or a surfboard. Or leaning into a bicycle turn. Enjoying the great outdoors. Disconnecting from the 24/7 news cycle and the endless scroll of social media. Thinking big thoughts. Thinking small thoughts for that matter! Finding the stillness that sometimes leads to insight.

And if you haven’t done any of that this summer, then maybe this conversation with Ryan Holiday, one of our favorites, will inspire you.
