More of us should engage in the struggle wherever we are instead of yearning always only for a return to our villages.

The beef is also juicy between East coast and West coast, rural v urban, light skin v dark, male v female, bourgey v broke, religious v street, and not only between ADOS v African African.

Let us hear more of our intellectual giants speak out against racism-sexism-imperialism in the Diaspora.

Biko

Gloria,

Are Black people not capable of crafting their own xenophobic, parochial, and exclusivist narratives and acting upon these narratives outside of White domination and divide and rule?

When Ghana and Nigeria expelled citizens of the other country in multiple waves, was that also a product of White divide and rule or expedient, cynical, populist politics of scapegoating, which is a universal political phenomenon? One of those expulsions even occurred under the leadership of Kwame Nkrumah, the proponent of African and pan-African unity and  solidarity.

My point is that we should accord Africans/Blacks the full range of their agency, which encompasses the rationality to craft and implement positive, inclusive projects of solidarity as well as negative, exclusionary, and insular ones. There is in each case a rationality and strategy to it, not simply a robotic, reflexive reactionary response to White divide and rule.

Not everything is being instigated by the white man. Some things have their own internal dynamics and logics that we should, analyze, condemn, and criticize as we deem fit on their own terms even if colonial and racist aftershocks are discernible in the society in question.

A fair comment - but I know the difference between “Ghana must go” or even the current  ethnic divide in Ethiopia, and Nigeria, from manipulative inter-ethnic conflict emerging from former settler colonies. In the former the crafting of
“Xenophobic, parochial,and exclusivist
narratives”is mainly home grown.
Agreed.   In former settler colonies
we are dealing with a different kind
of manipulation.

This reads like a black nationalist version of the white nationalist “Great Replacement theory” which holds that a conspiracy (usually Jewish) is replacing the indigenous white population of the US with a more pliable and more easily dominated immigrant population, especially Asian and Latino. She does seem to limit her argument to the universities, but it seems to just be more nativism, if nativism from a black perspective instead of the usual white one.

Personally I think Africans were cheated of quotas under the 1924 immigration act, but there were no blacks in the US Congress from 1901 to 1929.
