Nathaniel's Bakery needs our help

It started with a cake......I met Jennifer when I was preparing for my daughter's baby shower. I had been recommended to Nathaniels Bakery in Whitestone. The cake was a success, beyond my expectations. But, the owners were even more of a success. The nicest, most sincere people you would ever want to meet. I have been going twice a week since (we love the cinnamon rolls and jelly donuts). In February, I wanted to get a birthday cake for my son but saw a sign that they were closed for a family emergency. The sign remained for weeks. Now, end of March, still a sign but with a message to email Jennifer for orders. It was my granddaughter's birthday and I wanted to order a cake. All went well with the cake and the trimmings via email. Jennifer delivered the items to my home. It was then that she told me they will have to close the shop because her husband is very ill. Without telling too much, he underwent surgery and now is receiving chemotherapy with another surgery in the future. She said she cannot handle the shop and caring for him and their 7 year old son.

My heart aches for them. We must as a neighborhood help this lovely family. Reading the yelp reviews and the Facebook comments, there is not a single bad review. They are a simple bakery with amazing baked goods. Her custom cakes are gorgeous! Jennifer does exquisite work and helps with design. And the cake is delicious. They met in culinary school, two young people from different parts of the world who shared a dream. A dream they brought to Whitestone. They share some of their cultural delights (she is Chinese and he is Filipino) as well as cakes, cookies, croissants, muffins, and donuts. Now they are faced with this illness that will end this dream.

Let's do what we can do as a neighborhood to help them through this trying time. Thinking of all the joyous events these cakes were enjoyed at should be further shared. Every little bit helps.
