Emergency Preparedness

Update the Saltwater Intrusion update to Status update (10.06.23) - Saltwater intrusion from the Gulf of Mexico

We continue to closely monitor the potential impact of saltwater intrusion from the Gulf of Mexico. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released an updated prediction for the timing of the impact to municipal water systems in our area. It reflects a slower timeline as compared to previous projections. The leading edge of saltwater is now anticipated to reach Algiers (November 23) and Gretna (November 26). Other upriver locations (West Jefferson, New Orleans Carrollton, and East Jefferson treatment plants) are predicted to have less of an impact at this time, but we will continue to monitor the situation closely.

We are committed to keeping our team members and patients safe. See links below for the latest updates from the State of Louisiana and a live saltwater wedge tracker:

Status update (09.22.23) - Saltwater intrusion from the Gulf of Mexico

We are closely monitoring the potential impact of saltwater intrusion from the Gulf of Mexico. According to current predictions, there is a risk of saltwater exposure to our local water intakes via the Mississippi River, impacting municipal water systems. This is an unprecedented situation, and the full extent of the impact is still unknown.

Saltwater intrusion can have implications not only for drinking water but also for day-to-day operations. Therefore, we are taking early precautions to ensure that water at all our facilities remains safe for all purposes, including drinking.

We are committed to keeping our patients and team safe throughout this situation. We will continue to provide timely updates on this webpage as new information arises to ensure your safety and well-being.

LCMC Health has plans in place to ensure the safety of our patients and staff
