Researchers often find themselves wrestling with the daunting and time-consuming task of discovering the most suitable journals for their work. Balancing the need to publish with finding the ‘best’ journal requires close evaluation of various factors such as impact, scope, audience, and publication timelines. To help streamline the process of discovering, evaluating, and comparing medical and scholarly journals, Cabells is excited to launch the newest update to our Journalytics platforms, the ‘Compare Journals’ feature.

The Journalytics Academic and Medicine platforms help researchers navigate the publication process by gathering key journal information, traditional citation-backed indicators, and more nuanced metrics like AltmetricTM Reports and Smart CitationsTM, all in one user-friendly place. Whether prioritizing measures of impact and influence, geographical reach, or open-access policies, users can fine-tune their Journalytics searches to align with their individual needs. This flexibility ensures that authors can make publication decisions that resonate with their research goals and community.

The ‘Compare Journal’ feature is our newest tool to efficiently provide researchers with the most comprehensive journal insights and evaluations, and is now live on our Journalytics Academic and Medicine platforms.

Journalytics helps users go beyond numerical journal evaluations by providing detailed descriptions of journals scopes, editorial policies, and submission guidelines. The new ‘Compare Journals’ feature allows users to evaluate these key data points for multiple journals side by side, providing a detailed rundown of their respective metrics and other key attributes, saving researchers valuable time and effort.

Using the ‘Compare Journals’ Feature

To select a journal for comparison, users can click the ‘kebab’ menu at the top right of a Journalytics publication summary card and select “Compare journal.”

This will add the journal to the ‘COMPARE JOURNALS’ module at the bottom of the page:

Next, select at least one other journal to compare by again selecting ‘Compare journal’ from the menu at the top right…

… which will add this journal to the group for comparison.

Clicking the blue ‘Compare these’ button will produce a streamlined report allowing for a quick and comprehensive comparison:

By facilitating access to comprehensive journal metrics and evaluations, Cabells‘ Journalytics platforms empower researchers to make informed choices while holding publishers accountable for their practices and standards. We hope the new journal comparison feature will be another useful tool to help authors in their publication journey.
