SLR International Corporation is seeking a Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning Technical Discipline Manager (TDM) to lead our growing Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning team. Primary functions in this role include managing the growth and development of the SLR U.S. Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning Technical Discipline, including its business strategy, service offerings, staff technical capability, staff project management capability, business development and sales.  Successful candidates will demonstrate outstanding client networking and relationship building skills, backed by a proven reputation for providing the highest quality service and value to clients.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Geosciences, Urban Planning, Sustainability, Resilience, Hydrology, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or similar course of study; Master’s Degree is preferred
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant, professional work experience in Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning
  • 10 years of experience in Project Management
  • Proven experience in developing and leading a team of professionals with a varying levels of expertise and technical specialties
  • A commitment and desire to develop and lead a strong, well-rounded  team with a focus on quality work products and client communication
  • Strong client network
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing consulting assignments and working directly with clients and stakeholders
  • Capability to manage a variety of project deliverables with varying timelines
  • Proven project management experience from proposal stage to completion, to include establishing project quality, project scope, budget and schedules, client communications, and managing deliverables
  • A commitment to mentoring and developing staff
  • Ability to travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Key Responsibilities
  • The Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning TDM will lead the SLR U.S. Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning Technical Discipline. Services include, but are not limited to, climate vulnerability assessments, hazard mitigation planning, development of hazard mitigation and climate adaptation projects, climate and community resilience and sustainability planning. 
  • The selected candidate will be an inspirational role model for SLR’s “One Team” culture who is recognized for their integrity and ethical behavior.  The TDM must work effectively within and across the entire SLR U.S. region and support global efforts to enhance SLR’s full range of sustainability solutions. 
  • Continuously build personal professional knowledge in Climate Adaptation and Resilience by keeping up to date with emerging issues, trends, and best practices, including through participation in an expert capacity in professional and technical associations that focus on climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Shares technical expertise and knowledge with U.S. Climate Adaptation and Resilience staff members and similar teams in other SLR regions, while providing technical coaching to support SLR staff professional growth. 
  • Manages significant multi-disciplinary projects, to include proactively identifying potential risks of  projects and coaching others to recognize such risks and take appropriate actions. 
  • Consistently delivers projects under their direct management on time and within budget to meet client objectives, while coaching team members to do the same. 
    Conducts effective reviews of project work to ensure the SLR standards of excellence are achieved.
  • Develops and works with colleagues to implement a business plan to profitably grow SLR’s Climate Adaptation and Resilience business in the US and globally.
  • Consistently achieves Technical Discipline financial targets and contributes positively to the accomplishment of service line or sector targets. 
  • Has line management responsibility for Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning Technical Discipline staff, including hiring, setting objectives, and supporting employee development. 
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to attract and hire key talent, including driving recruitment and selection processes. 
  • Demonstrates leadership of staff through effective integration, communication, performance management, development planning, succession planning, reward, recognition, mentoring, coaching, and leading by example. 
  • Provides team management and leadership by articulating shared goals, providing regular communication, optimizing use of resources, and promoting team spirit and inclusiveness. 
  • Ensures the right people are working on the right projects. 
  • Has a strong client base and a following that consistently leads to significant repeat or new business. 
  • Assists in securing work from existing or new clients who are outside personal technical expertise or geography. 
  • Communicates and negotiates effectively with clients, including as a client relationship owner and by supporting key client initiatives. 
  • Leads the development of proposals that meet client needs, while achieving advantageous terms, profitability, and limited risk exposure for SLR. 
  • Uses excellent presentation skills to successfully develop and execute pitches for high value new projects.
