Dr. Charles Payne Lecture - January 28, 5-6:30pm
The Consortium for Social Movements and Education Research and Practice invites the Penn State Community to a lecture by Dr. Charles Payne on Thursday, January 28th from 5:00-6:30pm. The lecture is titled "'We Who Believe in Freedom': The Legacy of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and the Legacy of Donald J. Trump."

Dr. Payne is the Henry Rutgers Distinguished Professor of African American Studies at Rutgers University and the Director of the Joseph Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Research. He is the author of I’ve Got the Light of Freedom: The Organizing Tradition and the Mississippi Freedom Struggle, So Much Reform, So Little Change, and co-editor of Teaching Freedom: Education for Liberation in the African-American Tradition. Dr. Payne is a leading scholar of the Black Liberation Movement and one of the founders of the Education for Liberation Network. His lecture will speak to relevant historical lessons on and critical contemporary issues about the intersection of anti-racist struggles and education.
